Krazy Kat: The Comic Art of George Herriman Wow! Beautiful book - J. Matthews - This is a wonderful book for Krazy Katz fans to own. It is large, colorful and very informative on one of Americas great cartoonists. The delivery through Amazon was fast and effortless. The book, a treasure to own. Worth the lower price through Amazon.
This book stands as the best introduction to one of the best comic strips ever produced. Not only is it packed with hard to find "Krazy Kat" strips, but it also includes a biography of the artist, George Herriman. Some consider Herriman the first African-American mainstream cartoonist. His colleagues didn't know his ethnicity (and Herriman didn't tell them) so some called him "the Greek". He felt he had to hide some of his features from the public. For example, he kept his very curly hair closely cut and hidden under a hat. Not only that, his birth certificate shows his parent's ethnicity as "colored". The prejudices of the time likely would not have allowed an African-American the mainstream status and freedom allowed to George Herriman. So through "Krazy Kat" we get a glimpse of what early 20th century American culture may have missed out on due to its racial myopia. For "Krazy Kat" stands as an absolute masterpiece of its genre.
Herriman found some modicum of fame in his lifetime. William Randolph Hearst (the newspaper magnate) loved Herriman's work and rewarded him with a lifetime contract (according to the biography in the book, Hearst once read a "Krazy Kat" Sunday page and immediately demanded a raise for the artist). Herriman's success didn't come quickly, however. His first big break came in 1897 with the sale of a sketch to the Los Angeles Herald. Around 1901 he landed his first job as a "Staff Cartoonist" (a person who literally reported to the office every day and rattled off strip after strip; very different from today's cartoonists). Between 1901 and 1916 Herriman penned numerous strips (the book includes samples of many of these strips - many in color), including: "Musical Mose" (this strip's overt racial humor would not fly today), "Professor Otto and His Auto", "Acrobatic Archie", "Two Jolly Jackies", "Major Ozone's Fresh Air Crusade", "Home Sweet Home", "Baron Mooch", "Mary's Home From College", "Gooseberry Sprig" (considered to be a direct forerunner to "Krazy Kat"), "Alexander the Cat", "Daniel and Pansy", and finally, in 1910, "The Dingbat Family" (which changed its name briefly to "The Family Upstairs"; it was Herriman's first hit). It was in a "Dingbat Family" strip in 1910 that a mouse first "beaned" a "Kat" with a projectile (in the "running boards" of the strip). Eventually the Kat and mouse sideshow surpassed the main strip's popularity, and "Krazy Kat" debuted as a daily in October 1913 (the famous Sunday pages began in 1916). Herriman kept experimenting with other strips through 1923 when he finally placed his focus squarely on "Krazy Kat".
From roughly 1913 to 1944 (when Herriman passed away leaving a week's worth of unfinished Krazy Kat's on his drawing table) "Krazy Kat" developed from a "Kat" and mouse game (filled with puns, misunderstandings, and musings on the imperfections of language) into a complex love triangle between Krazy (the "Kat"), Ignatz (the mouse) and Offisa Pupp (the dog). Ignatz's entire being revolves around "beaning" the "Kat" with a brick, and Krazy interprets this as an act of love (unbeknownst to Ignatz). Offisa Pupp loves Krazy (in a fatherly sort of way) and his obsession revolves around catching Ignatz in the act and jailing him. Three obsessions collide in an almost jazz-style derivation of themes. Herriman developed this theme brilliantly over 30 years of strips. But overall it defies analysis: the strip can only speak for itself.
Sadly, though "Krazy Kat" counted such dignatiries as e.e. cummings, George Gershwin, Gilbert Seldes, James Joyce, and other literati, as fans, its popularity waned dramatically throughout the 1930s (as it became more surreal, esoteric and unabashedly uncommercial). It was kept in print by Hearst himself. The book does not cover the frustration of Hearst editors at the inclusion of the strip in their papers. They rebelled against it in some cases. Many simply tried to remove it from circulation only to find Hearst himself yelling "keep it in!" So we have, of all people, the controversial William Randolph Hearst to thank for the continuation of "Krazy Kat". By the end of its run "Krazy Kat" only appeared in some 30 papers.
The main focus of this book lies in its numerous incredible strips. The book includes daily strips (most dating from 1938 to 1944) and Sunday pages (dating from 1916 to 1944 with some in color; it also includes both the first and last Sunday pages). If one reason exists to purchase this book, here it is. The strips retain their amazing character even after decades of aging. And the artwork remains astounding. Not only that, the book includes samples of hand colored drawings of Herriman's, and photos of Herriman and his family. All in all, this book opens the door on one of the comic strip medium's most celebrated strips. Those that get hooked should continue thier obsessions (in the true spirit of Krazy, Ignatz, and Offisa Pupp) with the Fantagraphics' series of Sunday pages, and the Pacific Comics club's reprints of daily strips. Someday every Krazy Kat strip Herriman drew will finally appear in printed form. We can hope, at least. : "[A] long-overdue, definitive opus on that fabulous feline of American surrealism."-Richard Merkin, Vanity Fair
Krazy Kat, created by George Herriman, made its debut in 1913. During its 31-year run, it was enormously popular with the public and with many writers, artists, and intellectuals of the time. Herriman's stories of the Kat and his tormentor, Ignatz Mouse, were both playful and philosophical. This book is the most comprehensive survey of the innovative cartoon masterpiece and the first major biographical work on the artist himself. Illustrated with more than 150 of Herriman's comic strips as well as never-before-published drawings, archival photographs, and personal letters, this book is a testament to the brilliance of his work. Brazil is the largest country in South America and offers broad opportunities for travel and a range of living opportunities you would expect from such a large and diverse country. There are the jungles of the Amazon rain forests, the high plains of the pampas around Brazilia, and of course the world famous beaches, plus much more. The range of landscapes is enormous. Brazilians are world-famous for their hospitality and friendliness, and welcome foreigners unhesitatingly. Rio de Janero is well known for its beaches, partying, nightlife, and the biggest party in the world, Carnival.
Brazil is fun, interesting, and warmly welcomes everyone. So you might expect it to be an expensive place to live. It is not. Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro in Brazil are among the cheapest cities in the world to live in, according to a study by the British consultancy firm Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).
It is often said in Brazil: "You either have a housekeeper or you are a housekeeper." Even middle-class working families usually have a maid or housekeeper in Brazil.
You can retire in Brazil. There is a retirement visa available, but to qualify for it you must have proof of an income of at least $2000 per month (plus an additional amount for dependents). There is also an investment category, as well as other ways to become a permanent resident in Brazil.
Permanent residents of Brazil may apply for Brazilian passports and can also keep their current citizenships and passports too. It is perfectly legal and common to do so. There can be some benefit to holding a Brazilian passport. Sometimes citizens of the USA are targeted by terrorists when traveling overseas. Brazilians are not targeted.
Health care is a high priority for retirees. Health care in Brazil is very good. The poorer people depend entirely on the free national health care system. It is not necessary to be a citizen of Brazil to use the national health care system. Any person who is legally in the country is welcome to use the national health care system. The national health care system does a good job of providing all health care needs at no cost to the patients. National health care patients pay nothing at all for doctors' fees, lab fees, hospitalization, surgery, and even prescription drugs are free.
Brazil's national health care system is toughly equal to the caliber and operational style of the V.A. hospital system in the USA. There are some drawbacks to this system. You will not receive the very highest possible quality of health care in the national health care system. There is a trade-off. If you want completely free health care, including all your prescription drugs, Brazil's national health care system is very good. Free health care is a good safety net. If you want the very highest possible quality of health care, then you must pay. The more affluent Brazilians favor two different private market providers for health care, much like Blue Cross & Blue Shield.
The first private market medical provider is UniMed , which is owned and operated by doctors. They have their own hospitals and clinics throughout Brazil, they use a referral type system whereas you have a primary doctor and he refers you when needed to a specialist for any special treatments. A plan for a family of three costs about R$600.00 per month (less than $300 USD). I would recommend UniMed if you demand the highest quality healthcare. Personally, I prefer the completely free national health care system, but to each their own.
The second private market medical provider is Banco Bradesco , which is a major financial institution in Brazil offering health insurance and directly employing a substantial and high caliber medical staff. The difference with this type of policy is they only have private clinics and have to buy the hospital stay coverage from someone like UniMed. Costs are also higher. A comprehensive health insurance policy for a family of three runs in neighborhood of R$1,000.00 ($500 USD) per month.
The bottom line is you can get more for your money in Brazil than almost anywhere else on earth. You can enjoy a higher standard of living for your money.

Tarzan Archives: The Jesse Marsh Years Volume 1 (v. 1) Vintage Tarzan Comics - Tim Janson - MichiganOnce again, Dark Horse has dug into the pile of long-forgotten comics to produce another fabulous hardcover archive edition. Tarzan: The Jesse Marsh Years Volume 1 collections Tarzan stories from the 1940s that originally appeared in the pages of Dell Four Color Comics #134 and 161, and in Tarzan #1 - 4. Tarzan has been a stalwart in comics and newspaper strips for over 70 years and Dark Horse has rescued these stories which otherwise would have remained lost.
Marsh had worked for Walt Disney as an animator on films such as "Fantasia" and "Pinocchio" before going to work for Western Publishing who put out Dell and Gold Key Comics. These stories were the first original Tarzan stories to appear in comics. Previously, only reprints of the newspaper strips were published. There's an adventurous simplicity to the seven stories in this volume. They are all book-length tales, the best being "Tazan and the Black Panther" where Tarzan battles slavers. Marsh's art is also quite simple, perhaps even a bit primitive but he knew how to tell a story and frame the action perfectly. Not for everyone's tastes certainly but Tarzan fans will certainly appreciate these stories being back in print after so many years.
My youthful introduction to Tarzan came from Lex Barker movies and the Dell comic books, but my comic books went the way of most comic books, read to pieces and disappearing over the years for one reason or another. After the Edgar Rice Burroughs paperback boom of the early 60s, I became a big fan of collecting the original books but still picked up some Dell comics here and there when I could find them. When Dark Horse published the Jesse Marsh Tarzan archives, I wasn't too sure I wanted to start buying them, but Amazon.com's special free-shipping offer enticed me and I went ahead and ordered Vol. 1. As soon as it came in the mail, I realized I had made the right decision. I immediately placed an order for Vol. 2 and now, since that has arrived, I've advance-ordered Vol. 3.
I love these old comics far more than I remember, especially since they have stories that are actually pretty much in line with the original books by ERB. They feature some of the same characters -- Tarzan's friend, D'Arnot, for example, as well as Jane -- and the stories are tied in with the strange lost cities and tribe's of Tarzan's Africa, as originally penned by Burroughs. So, it's almost like having new Tarzan stories! True, there are differences between the comics and the original books: One is the annoying inclusion of a young lad called "Boy" when those old comics could just as easily have referred to him as "Korak," the name Burroughs gave to Tarzan's actual son. However, these Archives are so well done, with slick, full-color pages and reproductions of the original covers, that one tends to be forgiving of such things. I'm enjoying these books and highly recommend them to fans of Tarzan, fans of Jesse Marsh, fans of Gaylord DuBois who wrote the stories, and fans of old comic books. If you're none of the above, it's entirely possible you'll find another reason to like them! : In 1947, artist Jesse Marsh left Walt Disney Studios-where he had worked on Pinocchio, Fantasia, and various animated shorts-to work for Western Publishing full time. Tarzan was one of his first assignments, with the iconic character's first original comic-book appearance in Dell Four-Color Comics #134. Tarzan #2 would begin Marsh's long-term collaboration with writer Gaylord DuBois. Their terrific work drew admiration and respect from readers and peers-Russ Manning among them - and Marsh's art inspired future comics creators from Richard Corben to Los Bros. Hernandez! Lately, I have had an increased number of inquiries on this very issue.So I figured, now is as good as time as ever to briefly re-visit this issue for the benefit of my readership. Certain kinds of "business"related travel, is permitted using a B-1 visitor visa. The definition of"business" under immigration law is limited, and does not generally allow for gainful employment, labor for hire or productive activity such as operating a business or consultancy work.
Specifically, in the applicable U.S. law the term "business" is limited to
(a) the negotiation of contracts,
(b) consultation with business associates,
(c) litigation, and
(d) participation in scientific, educational, professional or business conventions,conferences or seminars and other legitimate activities of a commercial or professional nature.
Persons entering the U.S. on a visitor visa, for business or tourism (B-1/B-2), or without a visa on the Visa Waiver Program are not permitted to work, i.e. being "gainfully employed" in the United States. If you are planning to work, or to attend certain training in the U.S., you cannot enter the U.S. with a visitor visa. Instead, you will need a visa in one of the employment categories for temporary workers.
The following are some further examples of legitimate B-1 activities:
(1) Attending a scientific, educational,professional or business convention, conference or seminar,
(2) Giving a lecture,
(3) Doing independent research at a scientific or educational institution,
(4) Participating in a voluntary service program,
(5) Participating in a sporting event.
People who have B-1 visas may not, in general, receive salaries or compensation from U.S. sources. You may be able to come to the U.S. on B-1 status whereby you continue to receive your compensation back home, and may only receive expense reimbursements in the U.S., but no direct financial gain.
If a business traveler, or a company for that matter, is in any doubt as to their anticipated or proposed conduct in the United States, DO seek the advice and counsel of a qualified immigration lawyer, BEFORE the business traveler boards that mission-critical flight US-bound.

Each year tens of thousands of people from West African countries are transported by road to North Africa, mainly Morocco, from where they to Spain across the Strait of Gibraltar, whether hidden in trucks, which make the journey aboard ferries, or rafts.
In some cases there is also the smuggling of illegal immigrants by sea directly to France and Italy from North African countries.
The German authorities have discovered the following routes used for smuggling illegal immigrants from West Africa:
- By air, from Nigeria to Germany, the Netherlands or Belgium.
- By air, from Nigeria to Italy, which plays an important function as a distribution center, and from there to Germany, the Netherlands or Belgium.
- By land, sea and land again, following the Nigeria - Morocco - Spain - France - Germany.
Sierra Leone and Liberia are also among the countries of origin, and that women are encouraged to enter Ceuta, Spanish city located in the North African coast, to become pregnant and then ask the Spanish authorities that the move to mainland Spain. In fact, it appears that more and more visibly pregnant women or newborn children seeking access to mainland Spain aboard rickety boats.
The Spanish authorities also found the use of a route by air and by land: immigrants come from Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Liberia, and fly in directly to the Netherlands, from where they travel to Spain by train.
According to British authorities, illegal immigrants from West Africa arrive to the United Kingdom mainly by air. In this country it has been found also an organized child trafficking by Nigerian, who poses as their parents. It has often been used in Ireland as the first point of entry into the European Union on its way to the UK. In general, as reported by the BKA, Nigerian often organizes marriages of convenience to facilitate illegal immigration and encouraging the commission of other crimes.
The Irish authorities have reported that 50% of Nigerian emigrating to the European Union chose Ireland as a destination. In the first ten months of 2004, 2864 Nigerian applied for asylum in Ireland. Nigerian companies and individuals seek for massive invitations to conferences, which are used to obtain the travel documents. After arrival they interrupt contact with the university or institution that has sent the invitation.
According to Nigerian police, in 2004 a total of 7206 people, mostly girls, were deported to Nigeria, 80% of which came from Saudi Arabia, Italy and Spain. However, only 21 people were arrested and charged on the export of minor to perform work in inhuman conditions. Since the estimated price that this type of offenders charged only for a voyage by sea from the Gulf of Hammamet (Tunisia) to the Italian coast is 1,000 USD per person. Although it is possible to calculate the real benefits obtained with this business, there are reasons to believe that their actual costs are low. Therefore, given the few arrests that are practiced in connection with this crime, it seems that the smuggling of migrants is a profitable, low risk, with great potential to interest the West African criminal networks.
The prostitution rings in West Africa, and in some cases complicit in other places, recruiting women between 15 and 35 years primarily in Nigeria, Liberia, Ghana and Sierra Leone. It is estimated that only Europe arrive each year to 10,000 Nigerian women trafficked. Some of the victims of this business knowingly accept work as prostitutes, while others are attracted to other countries with the promise that there will work as models, in companies or as domestic workers, or that will be offered the opportunity to study. Arriving at his destination the captors confiscated his passport. For example, one known case in which the Nigerian network tried to use Guinea as a transit country of 35 girls for the sex trade in Europe, mainly in Italy.
According to information available, the European Union countries which are used as destination point for these women are Germany, Belgium, the Netherlands, the UK, Spain, France and Italy. This does not mean that other European countries are not affected by this type of crime committed by the West African networks. Switzerland is another country. Often women are victims of this crime to be exchanged between different groups to be exploited in various countries. According to reports, these exchanges have taken place in Belgium, the Netherlands and Germany.
The information available indicates that INTERPOL most used routes in this activity are air, directly from Nigeria to France, Italy and the UK. But there have also been other overland from West Africa across the Sahara and then by sea across the Mediterranean to Europe.
In Germany and the Netherlands have been detected using voodoo rituals. The woman is led first to a voodoo session in their home country. Then in the destination country of the European Union is preparing a package according to the rituals of voodoo and is given to a member of the network as a guarantee of the obligation for women to pay the "debt" owed by eligible transport and receive a series of forged documents. To pay this "debt", women are prostitutes on the streets or in brothels run by madams originating in West Africa. According to Germany, these madams are in turn controlled by low-level traffickers often contracted marriages of convenience with local criminals to obtain a residence permit. If necessary, use violence to control women. It is difficult to take action against this type of network since, as is customary in the West African organizations, there is often no clear link between petty criminals and responsible for the network.
Often, the victims of this crime do not cooperate with security forces, either by fear of violence can be exercised against relatives in their home countries or superstition. The police forces must take this into account if they wish to improve their effectiveness in combating such networks. When women pay the "debt", they return to their home countries or stay in the European Union, effectively "promoted" to the position of madam.

Don't let the fact that Zombies are played out discourage you from getting a hold of Archaia Press Studio's //Awakening: Volume One// by Nick Tapalansky and Alex Eckman-Lawn. It's near, if not at, the pinnacle of the best execution of a zombie graphic novel. It breathes death into the dead fad, and somehow, in contradiction, brings it back to life by doing so! Trust me on this.Though the storyline, that mainly consists of a private investigator attempting to figure out what exactly is plaguing Park City and its inhabitants, is undoubtedly awesome, the even more exciting part of the graphic novel is the art. The illustration is dark and telling, and obviously skillfully and passionately done. Eckman-Lawn was bold with the use of big black lines and strategic with the use of color and intentional "messy" shading, all of which create a tremendous depth of atmosphere and feeling.

Canada is the first choice amongst people who are planning to settle down in some other country for the rest of their life. Canada is an industrialized nation booming with unlimited opportunities for immigrants. Hundreds of people every year apply for immigration to Canada as the country has got one of the highest standards of living that keeps on getting better day by day! Right from resources to job opportunities, Canada has got everything that a truly developed nation must have.
Even though Canada has a number of provinces and territories, you will need to apply to the Government of Canada only. There is no need to apply to the individual province or territory where you would like to live. Immigration applications are handled by the department of Citizenship and Immigration Canada. In total Canada has 10 provinces and three territories, with almost 90% of the population living in the provinces of Ontario, Quebec, Alberta and British Columbia.
All the territories and provinces are different from each other offering different benefits to the residents. Before you file your application, you need to decide beforehand in which territory or province you want to settle down. Well, this will not make any difference to your application process but it will help you in getting any idea about the place in regards to climate, food habit and other stuffs.
For experiencing a better way of managing your application for immigration to Canada, you can take the help of an immigration lawyer or consultant who has in-depth knowledge about the immigration process. For successful immigration to Canada, the very first requirement is a clear, complete and accurate application attached with all the necessary documents and papers.
This can help in quick processing and successful conclusion of the status of your application. For all this to happen you need to have access to current and all the necessary information related to Canadian immigration policies which will help you in handling the whole process with ease.
As you plan out your immigration to Canada, do remember to take the help of a qualified immigration lawyer or consultant. The immigration lawyer will provide you with the necessary tools, knowledge, and the required resources for submitting and managing Canadian immigration application faster.
In fact, the quality of services immigration lawyers in Canada offer are very reliable and helpful. They have to conform to strictly regulated standards for the levels of education and other qualifications, which indicates that the government thinks seriously about these services.
To make sure that people get quality services, the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants (CSIC) - an independent and self-regulating body for immigration consultants was formed and members of these organization are the best one to deal with. There are also Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC), the Immigration and Refugee Board (IRB) and the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA) who are always there to help out those who need to apply for visa for immigration to Canada.

Recently, the United Nations Development Program issued their annual report of the best places to live, which indicated that Canada was ranked fourth in the world for living standards. This reflects the high quality of life that residents experience in this multicultural and dynamic country. It is no surprise then that Canada is consistently rated as one of the most desirable destinations for relocation and immigration.
Canada is often referred to as a cultural mosaic, built by a society that respects and celebrates the cultures of many countries from around the world. In 2006, Statistics Canada recorded that 6,186,950 foreign-born people now live in Canada. Immigration accounted for virtually one in five, or nearly 20% of the total Canadian population, the highest proportion in 75 years.
Although recessionary pressures and recent changes to criteria have tightened the entry requirements, immigration to Canada remains comparatively easy, and applications can be made through the relevant authorities under your own steam. However, recent statistics reveal that an estimated thirty percent of all applicants who lodge their application directly with the immigration authorities get it incorrect and are denied on technical issues because they did not use an agent to compile and double-check their application and test for immigration eligibility.
Increasing competition for a fixed number of places allocated to Canada means that the immigration authorities can only approve applicants with the best prepared applications, thus creating the need for independent immigration consultants. Immigration consultants not only streamline the application process, reducing waiting times and the stress involved, but also provide valuable information and services such as job search and advice, business migration and settlement services and obtaining official recognition for your trades and skills.
However, all things are not created equally, and there are certain factors that you should look for when selecting an immigration consultant for your intended move to Canada. The immigration consulting industry has been formally recognised by the various governments through the creation of professional industry bodies. Therefore, it is imperative to ensure that you use a consultant that is recognised by the relevant professional and regulatory bodies, in this case the Canada Society for Immigration Consultants - CSIC. This is your protection that you are dealing with a reputable, professional firm. Certified consultants are equipped with the latest information on immigration law, procedures and practices and go about their business according to a strict, enforceable Code of Conduct.
The more reputable agencies are able to offer free jobseeker programs with integrated fast track visa programs, which will assist in you not only in the immigration process, but in finding employment that is both desirable and lucrative, in an industry in Canada which represents your skill sets and experience.
Before deciding upon a specific immigration company or consultant, you need answers to key questions such as:
- Are they a member in good standing of the country's main professional regulatory/licensing body?
- How long have they been practising?
- What is their (audited) success rate?
- Are they telling you that they can guarantee success?
- What payment and terms of payment are expected?

Immigration Law was established because many foreigners wanted to come to the United States to have a better life and they needed to have a standard of law. In the beginning of the countries history there was a open door policy towards immigrants and anybody could come to have a new life. But then in the late 1800's they started limiting certain groups from coming in and these were mainly savory characters looking for trouble. T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents Archives, Vol. 6 (Archive Editions (Graphic Novels)) This brings an end to the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents' Archives series from DC.Masterminded by the great Wally Wood in the 60s, the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents' series, with its heroes Dynamo, Noman and others were never quite a match for DC's Superman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern and others, nor Marvel's Fantastic Four, Spider-man and Avengers.
Nevertheless, for a young boy who found them among the other comics on the racks in those days they were a breath of fresh air.
I have been eagerly collecting the series and although they may not have withstood the test of time as say Green Lantern, the Flash or the Fantastic Four, for example, they still have brought back fond memories for me.
I have also been collecting the Doom Patrol Archives and am eagerly awaiting the one on the Metal Men. Though I liked the more popular characters, the more quirky heroes such as these and the T.H.U.N.D.E.R. Agents will always be fondly remembered. : A byproduct of the sixties' love of superheroes, sci-fi, and acronymed spy organizations, the agents of T.H.U.N.D.E.R. (The Higher United Nations Defense Enforcement Reserves) were a short-lived creation of Wally Wood at a small publisher called Tower Comics. Probably best known for his work at EC Comics or on the early Daredevil, Wood wrote and drew stories for T.H.U.N.D.E.R and also enlisted the help of some of the more popular talents of the day, including Steve Ditko, Gil Kane, George Tuska, and Chic Stone. The sixth volume of the T.H.U.N.D.E.R Agents Archives series reprints the final six issues (15-20) of the series, most of which piled four or five individual stories into each whopping 40- to 50-page issue (no wonder they cost a quarter!). The stories mostly centered on a single agent--Dynamo with his strength-enhancing Thunderbelt; the ghostly NoMan, who wears an invisibility cloak and when in peril can instantly transfer his mind to another android body; Lightning, the swift agent whose superspeed shortens his life--though occasionally featuring a combination of heroes or some of the non-superpowered agents in the T.H.U.N.D.E.R force. Villains included the members of S.P.I.D.E.R. (Secret People's International Directorate for Extralegal Revenue), the dimension-shifting Warp Wizard, or enemies from Red China (this was during the cold war, but the Soviet Union was not supposed to be painted as bad guys since they were member of the United Nations). While the stories are on the short side and ultimately slight, they're still a fun time capsule of the comics scene in the '60s. The T.H.U.N.D.E.R Agents were briefly revived in the '80s and '90s. --David Horiuchi An action-packed adventure of espionage and heroics, T.H.U.N.D.E.R. AGENTS ARCHIVES VOL 3 reprints the classic 1960s tales of the secret team of super-technology-powered policemen. Utilizing the amazing powers of the thunder belt, the cloak of invisibility, and the psionic helmet, the agents of The Higher United Nations Defense Enforcement Reserve fight against the evil Warlord and his plans for world domination. Featuring the introduction of Raven, the newest T.H.U.N.D.E.R. agent, this beautiful book also includes battles against alien invaders, subterranean monsters, foreign spies, killer robots, and undead zombies. An immigrant or a "lawful permanent resident" is a foreign national who has been granted the privilege of permanently living and working in the United States. When you already have a close relative who is a lawful permanent resident staying within the country it can becomes easier to get into the US. However it may involve a lot of paperwork to be done and experience shows that it is always better to consult the immigration specialists on the matter, because by being on our own we may miss out on some important formality. There are many online and offline immigration paralegal service providers whom we can approach and get assistance to get the work done efficiently. These service providers are usually experts in various immigration services like,
There are many types of employment visas for those who are trying to enter the United States. These include visas for investors, advanced degree holders, and people with extraordinary abilities, professors, researchers, skilled workers and religious workers. If you are truly eligible, the relative can file a petition which must be approved by the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). This is followed by getting the immigrant visa number whether you are already within the US or outside. If outside one must go to the US Consulate to complete the process.
The non immigrant visa is a faster method to enter the US as the process takes just a few months. The non immigrant visas where employers sponsor for immigrants are H-1B, H-2, H-3, J-1, L-1, L-2, O, P, including treaty visas.

An individual may qualify for permanent residency in the United States as a priority worker. For academicians and researchers, a priority worker is characterized as one who has extraordinary ability OR those who are outstanding professors and researchers.
A.) ALIENS OF EXTRAORDINARY ABILITY
Under U.S. Immigration Laws an individual will qualify as a priority worker as an Alien of Extraordinary Ability if:
(1) the alien has extraordinary ability in the sciences, arts, education, business, or athletics which has been demonstrated by sustained national or international acclaim and whose achievements have been recognized in the field through extensive documentation,
(2) the alien seeks to enter the United States to continue work in the area of extraordinary ability, and
(3) the alien's entry into the United States will substantially benefit prospectively the United States.
A person of extraordinary ability is defined as a person demonstrating a level of expertise indicating that the individual is one of that small percentage who have risen to the very top of the field of endeavor and that the alien has sustained national or international acclaim and whose achievements have been recognized in the field of expertise. Such evidence shall include evidence of a one-time achievement (i.e., the Pritzker Architecture Prize, Pulitzer Prize, or Nobel Prize), or at least three of the following:
(1) Documentation of the alien's receipt of lesser nationally or internationally recognized prizes or awards for excellence in the field of endeavor;
(2) Documentation of the alien's membership in associations in the field for which classification is sought, which require outstanding achievements of their members, as judged by recognized national or international experts in their disciplines or fields;
(3) Published material about the alien in professional or other major trade publications or major media, relating to the alien's work in the field for which classification is sought. Such evidence shall include the title, date, and author of the material, and any necessary translation;
(4) Evidence of the alien's participation, either individually or on a panel, as a judge of the work of others in the same or an allied field of specialization for which classification is sought;
(5) Evidence of the alien's original scientific, scholarly, artistic, athletic, or business-related contributions of major significance in the field;
(6) Evidence of the alien's authorship of scholarly articles in the field, in professional or major trade publications or other major media;
(7) Evidence of the display of the alien's work in the field at artistic exhibitions or showcases;
(8) Evidence that the alien has performed in a leading or critical role for organizations or establishments that have a distinguished reputation;
(9) Evidence that the alien has commanded a high salary or other significantly high remuneration for services, in relation to others in the field; or
(10) Evidence of commercial successes in the performing arts, as shown by box office receipts or record, cassette, compact disc, or video sales.
It should also be noted that the list above is not exhaustive as the immigration services will allow comparable evidence as proof of extraordinary ability. A checklist approach in satisfying three of the criteria above does not automatically guarantee approval of the petition. Rather the quality of one's work, reputation of the publisher, or citations of one's work by other scholars in the field is essential in a successful petition.
A single reference letter written by a Nobel Laureate about the extraordinary nature of the beneficiary may be sufficient to carry the petition to approval. In contrast a library of letters written by individuals who are not top tier members of the profession will not likely impress the adjudication officer. For example in a recent case, a Japanese sculptor was seeking admission to the United States as an Alien of Extraordinary Ability. Her petition was approved based on her body of work and a single letter from a Chinese artist of international renown whose work had been recognized by the United Nations.
A beneficiary of the petition may also wish to include a citation index showing the number of times his or her work has been cited by others in his or her field. Additionally, if submitting publications, the quality of the professional journal or publisher will also matter, where a well known publisher or recognized journal will be given more weight than self published materials or those of vanity presses.
Entry to Work in the Field of Extraordinary Ability
Beneficiaries of an "extraordinary" petition do not need a U.S. sponsor or employer. The requirement is that the beneficiary must be coming to continue work in the area of his or her expertise. Further, the work need not be in the same research area that initially brought the beneficiary fame so long as it is in the same field. Satisfying this requirement would be easier if the beneficiary already had an employer or a prospective employer. Generally, evidence needed to satisfy this requirement include: 1.) employer letters from current employers or prospective employers verifying a job opportunity, 2.) employment contracts, 3.) a detailed statement from the beneficiary on how he or she will continue their work in the area of expertise, or 4.) any other documentary evidence relevant to meet this requirement.
Substantial Benefit Prospectively to the United States
The final requirement is that the beneficiary will substantially benefit prospectively the United States. The immigration services will generally assume that this requirement is met if the beneficiary is working in an area of expertise as a person of extraordinary ability. This requirement is generally linked with the indices for extraordinary ability stated earlier in this article.
B.) OUTSTANDING PROFESSORS AND RESEARCHERS
An academic will qualify as a priority worker if he or she meets the following criteria:
(1) the alien is recognized internationally as outstanding in a specific academic area,
(2) the alien has at least 3 years of experience in teaching or research in the academic area, and
(3) the alien seeks to enter the United States,
(4) for a tenured position (or tenure-track position) within a university or institution of higher education to teach in the academic area,
(5) for a comparable position with a university or institution of higher education to conduct research in the area, or
(6) for a comparable position to conduct research in the area with a department, division, or institute of a private employer, if the department, division, or institute employs at least 3 persons full-time in research activities and has achieved documented accomplishments in an academic field.
C.) FILING PROCEDURE
A beneficiary must file a form I-140, Immigrant Petition for Alien Worker with the United States Citizenship and Immigration Service Center having jurisdiction over the petition. As of the writing of this article all I-140 visa petitions are filed with the Nebraska Service Center. The current filing fee is $475.
If the beneficiary is outside the U.S. then he or she will obtain permanent residency through a U.S. Consulate abroad. If the beneficiary is in the U.S. then they may, in some circumstances, file an application for permanent residency at the same time they file the I-140 visa petition. As of this writing all priority worker beneficiaries may file concurrent applications for permanent residency with the I-140 visa petition. The application for permanent residency is the form I-485, Application to Adjust Status. If filing form I-485 then one may also file form I-765, Application for Employment Authorization, and form I-131, Application for a Travel Document. The current fee for form, I-485 is $1010 (which includes the biometric fee); for form I-765, $340; and for form I-131, $305. Note: Filing fees are subject to change therefore it is important to ascertain the correct filing fee before filing.
